Ketubah Design
Historically, the ketubah need only be written on an organic material and need not be adorned with any artwork at all. So, you may be asking yourself, how did Ketubah Ketubah come to be? Well, beginning sometime in the sixteenth century, Italian artists began to decorate the ketubah in accordance with the concept of Hiddur Mitzvah, or the beautification of a good deed. This concept led to the creation of Jewish ritual art objects including menorahs, dreidels, mezuzahs and ketubot (plural of Ketubah).

Today, richly decorated ketubot from Persia, Italy, Turkey and the United States can be found in museums around the world. The design of a ketubah tends to reflect the style of the times and could include symbols of the country such as flags or crowns. Fruits, flowers, birds and Jewish symbols are also common themes within ketubot. Many artists to pay homage to famous artists or art movements within their ketubah designs in order to create a more modern look.
