| July 2009 - Summer Edition! |
Here is the weather that many around our office have been waiting for!
While we encourage you to get outside and enjoy these gorgeous days, we also remind you to wear sunscreen and stretch before any activity. If your job finds you at a desk for the majority of the day take five minutes today and search for 'stretches you can do at your desk'. Stretching will improve your flexibility and circulation as well as alleviate some of your daily stress.
Drink plenty of water, especially during these summer months!
Chances are you are currently not getting enough water in your day. You should keep a glass of water at your desk and drink it throughout the day. Refilling your glass will give you a reason to take a break every hour or so. Drinking water helps to properly hydrate you, cleanse your body and rinse bacteria from your mouth as you drink!
Remember to share your summer travel photos with us. We may even use them in upcoming issues of our newsletter.
Until next time, keep smiling,
The team @ Southcommon Dental

| Mind the Gap! |
When you think of dentistry, you probably think only of what dentists do to improve your health: but what about your appearance?
Cosmetic dentistry is the general term used to describe what dentists may do to improve your appearance. But don't be misled: the improvement in your appearance often leads to improvement in your overall physical (and mental) health.
What does cosmetic dentistry involve?
Often, patients perceive that their teeth are crooked, chipped, stained, or too dark, leading to a smile that's just not right. Cosmetic dentistry aims to correct, repair or cover the imperfection improving the appearance of the patient's smile and often their self confidence

| Tooth Brush Care |
It's recommended that you change your tooth brush at least every four months. This ensures that the bristles are in good condition for cleaning your teeth.
We recommend a soft bristle brush used after every meal with a fluoride toothpaste.
Your toothbrush should be stored upright after use and never shared. Also try to avoid letting your toothbrush touch your spouses if you share a holder.
After each use, rinse your brush under cold water, give it a good shake and let it air dry. Don't cover your 'home use' toothbrush as it may create a place for bacteria to flourish.
If you use a travel toothbrush, replace it after your trip. It's also a good idea to replace your brush after a cold or illness.
If you're interested, ask us about electric toothbrushes on your next visit, as studies have shown that users tend to brush their teeth longer, it could be worth the minor investment. |
