It is wonderful to see kids in the parks, bikes and inline skates out of storage and people out walking. Spring is definitely here!

Physical activity shouldn't be reserved for beautiful spring days though. Activity can be incorporated into your workday through a ten minute walk after lunch, a stretch between projects, and breathing exercises before you pack up. Some stretches you can try at your desk can be found here. Adding activity to your day will quickly become routine when you find it helps to relieve stress, break up your day and often adds to your productivity.

April was Oral Health Month

April was Oral Health Month!

Your oral health is integral to your overall health and is often a window into the rest of your body. Take some time to learn as much as you can about your oral health. Feel free to ask us any questions you may have and spread the word, a healthier mouth is a healthier you!

When you have a moment today, here is a quiz and a word-search created by the Canadian Dental Association based on your oral health. We think that you may find them both entertaining and educational. The CDA has also created several activities that you may want to print out for your children to enjoy this evening.

In keeping with the Oral Health Month theme the Canadian Dental Association created a list of five steps that will help you to achieve a healthy smile.

The Canadian Dental Association's 5 Steps to Good Oral Health are as follows:
1. Visit your dentist regularly.

2.
Brush your teeth and tongue twice a day using fluoride toothpaste and floss every day.

3.
Eat a well balanced diet.

4.
Check your mouth regularly for signs of gum disease and oral cancer.

5. Don't smoke or chew tobacco.

Why does your dentist want to schedule another appointment with you so soon - even if today's oral examination was perfect?

Regular dental visits are essential to maintaining healthy teeth and gums. For maximum benefit, a good home care regimen must be supplemented with an examination at least every six months. Depending on the status of your oral health, your dentist may recommend more frequent visits.

Several months after cleaning, teeth can have plaque build-up as well as stains from food, beverages, tobacco, etc. Over time, plaque build-up can harden into tartar (or calculus) formation.

Checking your teeth for decay is only a small part of a thorough oral exam. During each visit, your dentist (or dental hygienist) will also:

  • Check your gums (gingiva) for inflammation
  • Tooth mobility and pockets
  • Examine your mouth for indications of possible cancer, diabetes and vitamin deficiencies
  • Note any irregularities in your facial structure, bite, saliva and temporomandibular joint (TMJ).
  • Your dentist or hygienist will then clean your teeth and encourage you to maintain good oral hygiene.

So now you know!

If we haven't seen your smile in while please give us a call or request an appointment today. Your smile will thank you!
