Watching a thrilling movie or the championship game can be a 'nail biting' experience. The excitement has us sitting at the edge of seats, our hearts pounding... and some of us even taking the 'nail biting' aspect literally.

How does nail biting affect your teeth?

The primary issue with nail biting is the pressure it puts on your front teeth. These teeth are not built to withstand the same amount of pressure that your molars are. Nail biting can cause the enamel protecting your teeth to fracture as well as wearing down and chipping the edges. Despite being the hardest substance in your body, enamel is by no means invincible.

Chewing your nails creates rough edges on them which can cut your gums. Complicating this is the presence of bacteria and fungi that live on your fingers. By biting your nails you put yourself at an increased risk of gum infection, and giving these bacteria a new way to access your bloodstream.

We've all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Yet many of us skip this meal or try to replace it with a prepackaged breakfast or power bar. While these bars offer a high level of convenience they also offer a high level of sugar and calories.

This month's recipe is full of fiber, vitamins, antioxidants and is low in sugar. It can be enjoyed for breakfast, dessert or a midday snack. It will also stay for a few days if covered and refrigerated allowing you to make it on the weekend and enjoy it for the first few days of the work week.
