Remember years ago, when you'd visit your dentist and find out that you had a cavity even though you couldn't see it? You'd schedule an appointment to have it filled and return a week or so later. On your return visit the doctor would fill your tooth and prevent the future problems that could arise from a growing cavity. Then, upon looking in a mirror, you'd noticed that there was a silver filling sitting in your tooth.

These metallic fillings were standard practice until not so long ago. They are strong, effective and have been used for over a century.

February 15 is Flag Day in Canada. The flag as we know it today has been the official flag of our nation since it was passed and raised by parliament in 1965. It was designed by George F.G. Stanley and was inspired by the Royal Military College of Canada's flag.

The need for a new flag was a source of hot debate as early as 1925 in Canadian history. Before the current flag Canada flew the Royal Union Flag of the Great Britain, which you will notice is still incorporated in Ontario's and other provincial flags.

The use of a maple leaf a symbol in Canadian history can be dated back as far as 1700. As for the colours, red and white were designated as Canada's official colours by King George V in 1921, while the pattern of red white red had been used as early as 1899 in General Service Medals issued by Queen Victoria. The Canadian Flag is a source of pride and unity for our citizens and is respected worldwide.

Did you know?
A person who studies flags is called a Vexillologist. Many Vexillologists argue that the Canadian flag is one of the most beautiful based on its simplicity and use of few colours.
