At our office your safety and comfort is a top priority. Last month the team at Danforth Neighbourhood Dental Centre successfully completed another CPR course.
We believe the best medical emergency is no emergency! So if any of our patients have had a change in their medical health, new medication, allergies or hospital stays please notify us before any dental treatment.
Last month we visited Frankland P.S and Holy Name School in the neighbourhood for community education. We made a presentation to 6 Junior and Senior Kindergarten classes about dental education before Halloween.
Finally, welcome back Laura! She had a beautiful baby boy named Tyler and is back from maternity leave. Be sure to welcome her back the next time you are in to see us!

Tooth Decay describes the break down of strong healthy teeth over time. Your tooth's surface is composed of a hard mineral coating called enamel. Enamel is the hardest tissue in your body, but by no means indestructible. Enamel is exposed to bacteria all day which produce plaque. Plaque is the substance that covers your teeth and eats away at the enamel causing the holes known as cavities.
Brushing your teeth, flossing and regular dental visits will help keep plaque under control. Leaving plaque on your teeth leads to tartar buildup which brushing and flossing alone can not remove. Letting plaque get out of control can lead to many oral problems ranging from bad breath and cavities to gum recession Periodontal disease and tooth loss.
Even teeth with fillings aren't immune to plaque. The acidic substance damages fillings and other dental work and can lead to future problems.

There is still much to be done to prepare for the winter months ahead. Here are some reminders to keep you on top of things:
If you haven't done so already, remember to rake the leaves, weed, feed and aerate the lawn one last time before the snow comes.
If your pet 'uses the yard', it is a good time to clean up after them (you'll be glad you did when the snow melts in the spring).
If you have trees that overhang your roof, remember to clean out the gutters.
Turn off the water to the outdoor faucets, empty your hoses, roll them up and store them properly (this will save you from needing a new one next year).
If you have a humidifier clean the filter, make sure it still works. Change the filter in your furnace and make sure the heating system in your residence is working (the first cold snap is no time for a surprise).
The next warm afternoon that you spend at home, open all of your windows for several hours, especially the ones in the basement if you live in a house.
If you can't remember when you changed the batteries in you smoke detector, DO IT TODAY!
There are also several websites that offer tips specific for preparing apartments, condos, cottages etc. for each season. A little work now can go a long way as well as offer activities that the whole family can participate in. Remember to stretch before performing any activity, yard work included.
Now get out there and enjoy the rest of the season! |
