Are You Afraid, or Are You AFRAID?
With the advances in technology, dental procedures are for the most part, painless. However, in spite of these improvements, many people still experience anxiety, fear and even phobia about going to the dentist. This can lead to neglect of dental problems and cause even more pain than the patient is trying to avoid.

1. What is anxiety?
The word anxiety stems from the Greek angho 'to squeeze, embrace, or throttle.' The meaning evolved to 'weighed down with grief, burdens, trouble' and concurrently to the Latin anxietas: 'troubled in mind.'
Anxiety is defined as a sense of worry, dread or fear. It is a very common feeling.

Trick or Treat?
|
Ah it's October, the leaves are falling and so are the temperatures. Halloween is just around the corner and whether you have little ghosts and goblins or not, chances are you will have a pail full of sugary sweets to accommodate those that do come to your door.
If you're like me, not all of these candies end up in little 'trick or treaters' bags. More often than not it's a 1:1 ratio of one in the bag, one in my stomach.
Here are some suggestions to help you cope with the temptation of Halloween candy in the house:
|
For starters, wait until the night or two before Halloween to actually pick up any candy ...if it's not there, you won't eat it.
Eat any candy with a meal, and drink water to rinse the sugar from your teeth when you're done.
Perhaps buy 'healthier' snacks such as raisins, sesame snaps and sugar free options.
And if you're going to indulge, do so in moderation ...besides the dental problems, think about your overall health. |
