 Happy and Healthy New Year,

 Dr. Lancelot Brown and Team

A Special Thanks!

To Dragana for her Generosity

We would like to extend a special thank you to our restorative hygienist Dragana, for her continued volunteer commitments.

From December 25, 2007 to January 8, 2008, Dragana volunteered in Des Chappelles, Haiti providing basic dental care to the community. In 4 days, the team of 4 were able to see 220 patients. WOW!

Ask Dragana for more details about her trip at your next visit. Dragana will also be returning to Guatemala at the end of January to participate in The Health Outreach Project. It will be her 4th year volunteering with them.

You Can Count On Us!

The priorities and expectations that you should count on in our dental practice include special, personal attention to your needs, high-quality dental care and a strong focus on patient education for your life-long dental health.

We know that the first step to a winning smile is dental disease prevention, so we work with you to ensure that your gums and teeth are as healthy as possible. From there, you can request a variety of expert smile options, from simple whitening procedures to bonding, veneers and complete smile makeovers.

We would like to remind you, not only at your dental visits but also through this newsletter, that achieving and maintaining a great smile should be a daily priority. For clean teeth, healthy gums and fresh breath, that means a daily ritual of brushing thoroughly at least once in the morning and once at night, and flossing before you brush in the evening.

Never hesitate to call us with any questions or concerns about your oral health. Our goal is to put a bright, healthy smile on your face!

Time to Change Your Brush?

We recommend that you change your tooth brush at least every three – four months. This ensures that the bristles are in good condition for cleaning your teeth.

We recommend a soft bristle brush used after every meal with a fluoride toothpaste.

Your toothbrush should be stored upright after use and never shared. Also try to avoid letting your toothbrush touch your spouses if you share a holder. After each use, rinse your brush under cold water, give it a good shake and let it air dry.

Don't cover your 'home use' toothbrush as it may create a place for bacteria to flourish.

If you use a travel toothbrush, replace it after your trip. It's also a good idea to replace your brush after a cold or illness.

If you're interested, ask me about electric toothbrushes on your next visit. Studies have shown that users tend to brush their teeth longer and more meticulously with electric toothbrushes. It could be worth the minor investment.

BOOKS, MUSIC and MOVIES

Some of our staff recommendations this month:

Dr. Brown: (movie - current)
I am Legend
A movie about a military scientist who is faced with the decision of sacrificing himself for the good of humanity. A poignant movie on all levels. Stars Will Smith.

Lisa : (movie - 2003)
The Hunted
A thriller about an FBI agent who must track down a serial killer who hunts down humans for the sport of it. The agent teams with a tracker, and together they track the killer who remains one step ahead of them. Stars Benicio Del Toro and Tommy Lee Jones.

Dragana : (music - 1981)
The Penguin Café Orchestra (same titled album)
Their sound is not easy to categorize - experimental with elements of folk. Well worth a listen.

Kim: (book - 2003)
Harry Potter - Order of the Phoenix (by J.K. Rowling)
If you have not read any of the Harry Potter books, you absolutely must. If you have read them already, it just might be time to re-read them again. All around fabulous.

Betty: (movie - 2005)
The Little Rascals
Who can forget how much fun this group of little misfits can be? A thoroughly enjoyable film.

Tami: (movie - 2007)
Waitress
A pregnant woman, stuck in a bad marriage and an oppressive job, finds relief baking pies. Dark comedy but lovely and touching. Stars Keri Russell.

Kristin: (book - 1998)
The Alchemist (by Paulo Coelho)
A tale about the courage to follow your dreams. At its core, a magical novel overflowing with optimism and the motif that anything is possible as long as you really want it to happen.
